I have sewn and dabbled in art for as long as I can remember. As a child I enjoyed constructing dolls and sewing their clothing until I figured out it was easier to sew for myself. I was always making things and teaching the neighborhood children how to as well. I went on to study Textiles and Clothing in college, receiving a degree in Fashion and Design with a minor in art. Seven years ago I discovered the field of computerized embroidery for the home field. I was off and running!
I did much research when I first became interested in machine embroidery.   I was fascinated by the idea of digitizing my own designs or those I acquired from other sources such as clipart, patterns on fabric, etc.  PeDesign Version 1 software by Brother was just being released and I anxiously awaited shipment to my dealer.   When it finally arrived, I installed it on my computer and worked through my very first, not very well executed, design.  As I watched my machine embroider out the design, I realized I had far to go. Unfortunately, the manual was written in such a manner that was difficult to follow and there were no teachers in my area.  I haunted the original BBD newsgroup, read every book, and traveled near and far to attend retreats.  I taught Palette/PeDesign digitizing software and led monthly embroidery project classes, with an emphasis on techniques, at The Place To Sew (Presently the Sewing Shop) in Santa Rosa, California. I look forward to being able to help make the learning process a little easier for others by giving helpful hints and sparking their interest with upcoming classes.
I married
my high school sweetheart and we have two wonderful sons married to
lovely young ladies. They have blessed us with four little, adorable
grand children. We reside in
Glen Ellen, California in the beautiful Sonoma Valley wine country.
We are located in Northern California, one hour north of San
Francisco. Our family owns and operates Wolf Run Vineyards. We
recently completed construction of a vacation home in Portola, CA in
the high Sierras. I hope that you take a little time to peruse my site and hopefully gather some new information or ideas. Enjoy! Betsy Phillips |
